We recently shed light on the story of James Kenton, the owner of Tennessee Metal Roofing.
To recap, Kenton is reputed to have scammed multiple homeowners out of money, all while performing poor work and operating without a license in the state of Tennessee.
Kenton’s misconduct included taking between $1,000-$2,500 from homeowners, amounts small enough that likely wouldn’t lead to a lawsuit, but over time have come back to severely haunt Kenton.
Roofing Insights and other media companies have also obtained information suggesting that Kenton was colluding with another associate named Michael Haskins, who recently was arrested after authorities were notified of his involvement in Kenton’s illicit activities.
Like Kenton, homeowners have accused Haskins of taking payments, performing shoddy work, and then ignoring homeowner complaints.
Said one man who hired Tennessee Metal Roofing:
"I gave them $3,000 up front. The salesman took off with it and I haven’t seen him since."
Another person, Caroline Maccollum, signed a contract with Kenton’s outfit back in August 2016. She too was left mystified in the wake of Kenton’s abysmal craftsmanship.
"They put the roof on in November of 2016, and there seemed to be problems from the start,"
Maccollum told a local media outlet.
Meanwhile, Kenton’s attorney continues to argue that Kenton is not the official owner of Tennessee Metal Roofing, yet when pressed to name the actual owner of the company, Kenton’s lawyer balked.
"I can’t answer that. It’s barred by attorney-client privilege,"
he said, although he did mention that
"you can check with the state. They will give you the information."
A Nashville news station, WSMC News4, did just that, and they found a document related to Kenton’s lawyer’s claims. In that document, it was discovered that Kenton earlier admitted to operating without a license. On that same document, Kenton also listed himself as the owner of Tennessee Metal Roofing, contradicting his own lawyer’s claims that the company doesn’t belong to Kenton.
WSMC News4 has also reported that there are key pieces of additional information that they have obtained.
