Hurricane Scammer
Police in Bradenton, Florida, say an unlicensed contractor targeted elderly residents after Hurricane Milton — collecting more than $220,000 and allegedly never finishing the work.
According to investigators, 14 victims, ages 62 to 95, hired Brian Michaud, owner of RedFin Construction, to repair storm damage at a mobile home park. The work included repairs to roofs, carports, lanais, and sheds.
Where the Money Went
Financial records show the contractor moved money between personal and business accounts. Investigators say more than $53,000 was spent at casinos, along with other personal expenses.
While some purchases appeared construction-related, police say the materials were not used to complete the victims’ projects.
Charges Filed
The suspect faces 13 felony charges, including:
- Using another contractor’s license during a state of emergency
- Scheming to defraud $50,000 or more
- Misappropriation of construction funds over $100,000
- Aggravated white-collar crime against elderly victims
